Culture: Anne Frank House

The Anne Frank House (Dutch: Anne Frank huis) is a historic house and biographical museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank. During World War II, Anne Frank hid with her family and four other people in hidden rooms at the rear of the 17th-century canal house, known as the Secret Annex (Dutch: het Achterhuis). During the war Anne Frank wrote letters about her life to her fictive friend “Kitty”. Anne didn’t survive the war. Miep Gies, who helped the family Frank hiding from the German, found Anne’s letters and gave them to Anne’s father who survived the war. He made sure that Anne’s legacy was published in 1947 under the title ‘het Achterhuis’. The museum opened on 3 May 1960.
